Cliff Dwellers, in co-sponsorship with the Friends of Downtown and the Chicago Chapter of the AIA, are pleased to present another in a series of lectures at the Cliff Dwellers on Projects by Chicago Architects: Katherine Darnstadt presents Boombox - a new model and design for popup retail applications.
BOOMBOX combines the successful features of popup shops and festival booths to provide innovative transitional retail spaces at affordable prices.
BOOMBOX is a prefabricated, modular kiosk installed in high volume public spaces to provide nomadic retail opportunities for entrepreneurs and community activators.
The BOOMBOX kiosks are integrated into the urban infrastructure and retailers have the potential to range from commercial services to civic community-based resources and provide new venues for art, architecture, and commerce in a short term model.
Katherine Darnstadt: Architect and educator Katherine Darnstadt is the founder and principal of Latent Design, a progressive architecture and urban strategies firm conceiving dialogue based sustainable living solutions by combining contemporary sustainable architectural and urban issues with direct stakeholder involvement.
The results of this all-inclusive and intensive approach are extremely diverse, ranging from buildings to objects and urban designs that activate and motivate to new forms of community, usage and interaction between architecture and users.
Katherine and her firm have been recognized as an emerging leader in the architecture profession and have been published, exhibited and featured widely, most notably at the International Venice Biennale, Core 77 Design Awards, Architizer A+ Awards, Chicago Ideas Week, NPR, and as the 2013 national American Institute of Architects Young Architects Honor Award winner.
Additional Info: The door and bar open at 5:30. A buffet dinner will be served at 6:15 and the program will begin at 7:00. The price per person for dinner is $25 and the program that follows is free.
