Architectural Lecture Series Sustainable Nation: Urban Design Patterns for the Future

  • The Cliff Dwellers 200 South Michigan Avenue, 22nd Floor Chicago, IL, 60604 United States (map)

The Society of Architectural Historians and the Cliff Dwellers, in collaboration with the Friends of Downtown and the Chicago Chapter of the AIA, are pleased to present another in their series of architectural events on Thursday November 8, 2018: Douglas Farr presents Sustainable Nation: Urban Design Patterns for the Future.

If you are passionate about mitigating climate change, you need to be part of this conversation! Douglas Farr’s new book Sustainable Nation: Urban Design Patterns for the Future (2018) is an urgent call to action for all who care about urbanism and the environment. The timeline of climate change is long, but our time to act is short. We must accelerate change and build just, beautiful, and sustainable communities faster than we ever have before. Join Doug on a journey from fear about the seemingly daunting task of combatting climate change, to hope about how we can bring about a sustainable future in four generations.

Doug Farr is Founding Principal and President of Farr Associates, the 2012 AIA Chicago Firm of the Year. He is a national leader in designing sustainable neighborhoods and buildings, being elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2014. Under his leadership, Farr Associates has designed and certified a total of seven LEED Platinum buildings, two of which also achieve net-zero energy, and four LEED-ND Developments. Doug was the founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED-ND Core Committee and is currently serving as the Chair of the Congress for the New Urbanism Executive Board.
