The Society of Architectural Historians and the Cliff Dwellers, in co-sponsorship with the Friends of Downtown and the Chicago Chapter of the AIA, are pleased to present another in their series of architectural events on Thursday April 12, 2018; Leanne Star presents City of the Big Shoulders; A virtual Tour of Chicago’s Architecture and Literature.
Chicago’s distinctive architecture illustrates the works of writers from novelist Theodore Dreiser to poet Carl Sandburg to graphic novelist Chris Ware. This visual presentation explores the intersections of Chicago’s literature and architecture to discover how each art enriches the other. Leanne Star is a former professor of literature and a docent volunteer at the Chicago Architecture Foundation.
Leanne Star earned a graduate degree in comparative literature from the University of Chicago and taught literature and writing at Beloit College in Wisconsin, Colby College in Maine, and at universities in Taiwan and China. She writes on a broad range of topics for national publications and reviews theater and dance performances in Chicago. In her free time she is a docent volunteer at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, where she leads walking tours throughout the city as well as CAF’s renowned Chicago River cruise.
